Let's Get Growing

Post in Community Groups & Events by Morven MacDonald
Has this hot weather given your vegetable seeds and sunflowers a growth spurt?

Here is our local gardening guru on how to get the best from your seeds. See clip below.

The final date for entries for the sunflower competition is now 27th August. Do remember to take photos regularly of your whole sunflower with the measuring tape beside it, to qualify to enter. Even if your sunflower dies off before the 27th August it will still count. Look out for more updates here, the weekend before.
There are prizes for the tallest sunflower and the biggest sunflower, petal to petal. We would love to see a photo of your lovely sunflower bloom, whenever that might be.  The prizes are 1st - £40, 2nd - £30 and 3rd - £20 plus some bulbs to plant in September for next Spring.
Enjoy your garden this summer! We have a couple of packets of varied vegetable and herb seeds still available at the Community Event on 28th August at Strathgarve
The GreenLeaves group will be at the Community Open Day on 28th August to answer any questions about growing, getting involved with the group or just to chat. All ages welcome to get involved as much or as little as they wish. Have a look at their group, GreenLeaves here. You can sign in to website and follow the group for updates on the next pop up plant and herb stall in Garve village.
We would love to see photos of anything you are growing to share with the community as we move through Summer.
Thanks to Sue for taking the time to create the video clip and Lochluichart Community Trust for funding the Activate Garve & District Project.

Oh no Steve! That is so sad.. I think you are not alone. The deer do seem to like the taste of Sunflowers. Did you manage to get a photo of them before the deer got to them at all?

Also apologies replying so late. Been away on holiday.
