Holiday Activities for Children

in Community by Tina Hartley
Ok, what can we do to keep the kids happy during the holidays? Well, we have a plan - three fun activities lined up to keep them entertained.

Happy Kids

We have put an application forward to Lochluichart Community Trust to support some holiday activities - sadly we may not achieve this for the Summer holidays but hopefully will make a start in October followed by other sessions in February 2019 and Spring 2019.

What's on offer?

Exotic Reptiles

SEAR

Anyone visited Scottish Exotic Animal Rescue at Cantraybridge College? Tina's children have volunteered here for the past couple of years, it is such a fantastic place to visit but they are currently looking for new premises, so if you have any ideas get in touch. Nick, pictured here with Sam the Burmese Python said "I would love to come to Garve and bring a selection of reptiles for the children to see and learn more about, these types of community education sessions are so important".

Create Youth Theatre

Create Youth Theatre

We have invited Create Youth Theatre to join us in Garve and they are really pleased to be asked to run their highly successful:-

‘The Great Create Theatre Lab Workshop’

Theatre Arts Taster Day. For young people aged between 8-16 to gain confidence, have fun and explore the performing arts.

Highlife Highland Outdoor Activities

Imogen Furlong, Outdoor Activities Manager said "we'd be delighted to put together a bespoke package for you. We are particularly interested in facilitating communities to interact with their local environment in recreation and environmental education.  As well the Ranger service, we offer a variety of outdoor activities, paddle sports, rock and hillside sports. So outdoor activities is a plan and we can decide a little closer to the time what children would actually like to do. Encourage your kids to sign up and put ideas forward.

Sounds great! My children often go to activities in Inverness, Gairloch or Ullapool during the holidays - but it would be great to have something available locally!

Holiday Actiities for Children

These ideas are great!  Anything that brings our community together doing interesting stuff and gives our young people activities together perhaps even teaming up with schools from neighbouring communities would be great. Looking forward to hearing comments from the schools and anyone with more ideas.

Community Garden

Its good to see so many posts supporting the idea. We will soon need to take this further and get together and make plans to move it on.
