New Action Plan for Active Travel and Sustainable Transport

Post in Infrastructure by Tina Hartley
TG&DDC, on behalf of the community, were honoured to be chosen to take part in the Sustaining Choices project which worked with communities across Scotland.

9 Priorities for Action

The Sustaining Choices project has worked with communities across Scotland to develop a body of evidence that demonstrates the changes they would like to see in their area regarding walking, wheeling, cycling, and public transport. This is particularly timely given the challenge of climate change and net-zero targets, the need to reimagine the environments we live in as a result of the Covid pandemic, and the need to implement a green recovery as a consequence of both.  This Action Plan details the evidence base that has been gathered for our community.

The community agreed the following 9 priorities: -

  1. Provide quality cycling and walking routes around Garve and District
  2. Wayfinding signage provision
  3. Improve parking for use of residents
  4. Designate specific locations for motorhome parking
  5. Improved parking for visitor attractions
  6. Explore route and bus-stop provision for district buses, increase frequency of public transport
  7. Establish a community bus, and/or a car-share scheme
  8. Traffic calming measures into and out of Garve and other villages in the district
  9. Explore impact of noise levels from NC500 tourism

Work is currently taking place on a number of these priorities: -

  1. Provide quality cycling and walking routes around Garve and District
  2. Wayfinding signage provision
  3. Establish a community bus, and/or car-share scheme
  4. Traffic calming measures into and out of Garve and other villages in the district

Keep an eye open, over the coming week, for updates from us on progress regarding the 4 priorities above and on other Community Development Plan priorities that you have identified.

Below you will find the full version of the Action Plan which provides some great, detailed information on the project and also an abbreviated version for an easier read!

If you have any questions at all please feel free to comment and a Development Company Director or member of staff will get back to you asap or, of course, do email us or ring us directly.

We would like to thank the team at PAS for their excellent support .  Also, Lochluichart Community Trust and Garve and District Community Council for their full involvement in the process as key stakeholders and community representatives.
