Weekly Veg, Dairy and Meat orders and Daily Hot Meals now delivered

Post in Community Care by Lucy Beattie
From Wednesday 22 April the Garve and District Food delivery service will begin for weekly produce orders. From Friday 24th April there will be a daily lunchtime hot meal pick-up or delivery service.

As you may know Gemah Graham and her team at Garve Hotel have kindly been facilitating a weekly fresh veg, dairy and butcher order every Wednesday for residents in the area since the first lockdown for COVID19 began. The Garve and District Development Company has received funding from the LCT to support a household grant and support the community during the current COVID19 crisis. Thanks to this funding we are now able to offer people the option for a delivery service.

We are now in a period of lockdown to be reviewed in three weeks’ time. Many residents in our area are over 70 or have health conditions that mean they are advised to stay at home for a minimum period of 12 weeks. This service is open to all so that residents can be supported to stay at home and have access to supplies they need through buying direct. You do not need to fulfil certain criteria, this is open to all.

Please note this is not the food and medicine hub distribution service offered by the Highland Council for vulnerable people, if you are in need of this service please call the Highland Council COVID19 helpline on 0300 303 1362.

The Garve and District Local Food Hub will have two offerings. All food hub delivery helpers are fully briefed to ensure that infection control protocols and food handling policies are in place. Please see attachments for more info on our volunteer and food hub policies. If you’d like to offer your services as a food delivery helper please email lucy.beattie@garve.org, or if you have any other questions.

Please keep this information as the service will be on offer for at least the next 16 weeks to cover lockdown and a period of 12 weeks for those people who are self-isolating or shielding.  This may extend as public health advice changes. Please share this information with anyone who may not be online, particularly elderly or vulnerable friends, relatives and neighbours.
