Beasties in the Hall

Post in Community Groups & Events by Lucy Beattie
This half term the kids of Garve and District got some hands on learning with the Scottish Exotic Animal Rescue charity outreach.

Twenty children plus family members and carers attended the second of the Garve and District Development Company pilot taster days for children's holiday activities in Garve and District.  This project has been kindly supported by the LCT and during the February Half Term the Garve Village Hall opened its doors to Nick Martin and volunteer helper Bethan.

The children met an array of creatures great and small including scorpions, cockroaches, a tarantula, leaf insects, stick insects, land snails and a bearded dragon called Donut.  The star of the show was Sam the Burmese Python who measured over 12 feet long!

Nick, the founder of the rescue centre gave a fascinating account of how each creature behaves and lives in the wild as well as the heartbreaking stories of how animals come into the care of SEAR.  Nick is passionate about the animals in his care as well as educating the public about the care of exotic species.

The final kids holiday activity event will run during the Easter break.  For more info get in touch with lucy.beattie@garve.org
