Art Class for Adults

Post in Ideas by Morven MacDonald
Art class for all levels of ability? Interested? Vote below!

Any local artists/tutors out there?

I wonder if there is a local artist that could deliver relaxed, guided art sessions online? Can you recommend anyone? We can find a tutor outside of the district but would prefer to keep it within Garve & District if we can.

If there is enough interest in the class we can organise starter kits of art materials to get everyone off on the right foot with the right tools. Please vote below.

I enjoyed attending the University of Highlands and Islands (UHI) Highland Landscape Art session online last week and I am going again this Wednesday evening. It was nice to see a couple of Garve residents attending too. I did think how nice it would have been to have had just a few minutes to say hello to each other and enjoy being creative in the privacy of our own homes.  We can create our own informal, art session where your creations are as private or shared as you wish.

I used to attend art classes at Contin Hall and Dingwall. Visiting artists would take the classes. The only one I remember is Ester Armstrong (Evanton).

A great idea. Would be good to get interactive sessions where we can pose questions as we learn the basics.

Looks like we have enough interest to look into this further which is great.

If no-one knows of any artists locally that might be interested I will look further afield in the highlands and put a proposal together.

Thanks for voting and commenting. It helps so much.

I would be happy to join a group of others for a field sketching trip or similar when the weather calms down a bit. I am a keen amateur artist, not a tutor or profesional but would like to join in and have a go.

Hi Michael

That's great. A field trip for sketching is a great idea for the future. Initially classes would be over zoom but it would be lovely to work towards an occasional outing where possible.

Thanks for all the votes and comments everyone.

Would a Thursday 7-8.30pm work for you? If not, when would work?

It would be a relaxed session so if you needed to leave early or come in late it would be no problem.

Let me know your thoughts so we can make this happen for you all.

Morven, Did anything happen after your last post, as I have only just seen it. Was there a zoom get together?

Thanks Jean

Hi Jean

It's coming together but can take time to find the right person for the job and allow them time to get things set up. I am optimistic for a taster session to be set up in April if everything falls into place with the art class provider I have in mind. Watch this space and fingers crossed.

Apologies I did not reply quicker. I just saw your comment now. Do email me directly anytime too. Just my usual email address. Take care and hope to see you at an art class soon.

Thanks, Morven
